Greetings from Good Works On Earth
***********************************
I received a newsletter from the group supporting
Julia Butterfly Hill, the point-name person of those who literally
saved an ancient forest by living high in the tree named Luna.
Information in that newsletter moved me to render
the Name Art of Leonard Peltier.

I was astounded by what the Name Art revealed.

Each Name Art carries its own energies ... for instance,
the Name Art of Lady Diana is definitely her energy, her message,
her signature.  The Name Art of Mother Teresa was similar,
except that the Name Art carried an energy and awareness of
Love profound, moreso than the energy of a particular
being or personality.  Lady Diana's Name Art shared details
of her life and livings, Mother Teresa's Name Art shared
the overwhelming Love she had for all the children of her
One sOurce she called God.

The Name Art of Leonard Peltier carries the energies
of his incarceration, showing the unjust manner by which
he has been imprisoned in the penal pen, and
it carries the energies of his being freed, his freedom,
and the Name Art is signed by his Lord.

I do not know Leonard Peltier.
I do not know his belief system.
The word Lord might be wrong for him.

The word Great Spirit might be more appropriate
to his beliefs, but, the Creator chose to sign off on
Leonard's Name Art with, The Lord.

(I share with you, I prefer to render a Name Art of a one such as Leonard
without knowing too much about the person.  I prefer to allow the
intuitions to be the key to rendering the Name Art of such a one.)

On the other side of the coin,
if you have visited any of our site ..
you know I am not a religious type ...
I adhere to no one's dogma or doctrine,
I attend no one's church religiously.
I hear the still small voice within.
I have no intermediary between mysElf and my Creator,
the Great Spirit, some say God, some say Goddess,
some say Sanat Kumara, some say other names
for our one source.  I share this so you know
that the signing of Leonard's Name Art
is not my idea of a religious admonition
to the penal plan folks.
I am not trying to force anyone's
God upon them in their decisions with words.

What I am doing is sharing the Name Art as it wished to be rendered.
Remember, all names carry their own energies.
All Name Arts reveal their own energies.

I can also share with you this ...

Leonard's Name Art carries a similar energy to the
Name Art of NELSON MANDELA, another
Loving spirit imprisoned by the 'authorities.'

Leonard Peltier's Name Art was authored by His Great Spirit,
by His Creator, and I served as the amanuensis of That Great Spirit.

It is time to free Leonard Peltier.
It is past time to free Leonard Peltier.
And others like him.

We have seen the brutality of our law
enforcement agencies since their inception.

We are (August 2000) now seeing the fraud and contempt for the law
that the Los Angeles Police have expressed what with their false
testimony, their false planting of evidence, their shooting people,
then planting the gun on them to make it look like the person was
about to shoot the police.  On and on all over this country the police
are abusing the powers we have entrusted them with.  And the
AMA, the DEA, the chemical, fertilizer, medical and pharmaceutical
and others are no exception as is now being covered by the major
media more and more in this page, edited a bit, late December 2001.

Below, I share with you the
Name Art of Leonard Peltier.

A man has spent twenty four years in a cell in prison.  The law enforcement folks themsElves have said he is not guilty, yet, he is still in prison.

September 12th is Leonard's Date of Birth.  Please, read Leonard's Name Art slowly ... and please know that Good Works On Earth is sending this Name Art and the full Star Arts package to Leonard Peltier for his Birth Day Celebration.  Perhaps you too could send Leonard a gift of the heart in a letter or such to him.  One idea of a wonderful gift to this man is to call your congressperson, and or your senator, and tell them to press for Leonard's full freedoms with no strings attached.  Then, write Leonard and tell him what you did.  His mailing address is below.  Imagine for a few nowments, being ...

Note: a pardon and a parole imply wrongdoing forgiven.
Leonard did nothing wrong, ergo he should be freed entirely, without strings to any penal plan.

*ODIN : one more sacred name for our one source, most say Love, some still use God or Goddess, or Allah, or Oden, which is another spelling for Odin.  This is the name of the One Great Source, the Great Spirit in the Norse awarenesses in a word.  And to round out the mix, I include the Sacred Name of Sanat Kumara, and Babaji, and Sri Yukestwar, and Pramahansa Yogananda, along with Saint Issa, Sacred Names of Creatress/Creator/Love's images, all.  We are all of Our sOurce.

*PENAL PLAN PALS : the PENAL PLAN is the incarceration of people who do violence against others.  The PENAL PLAN PALS is a friendly way of saying, the men and women who make the decisions in the PENAL PLAN system.  In this case, it would include all who are capable of signing the full release to Leonard Peltier.

* PINE : 1. To feel a lingering, often nostalgic desire. 2. To wither or waste away from  longing or grief.

** PINE : One definition among many for the word PINE is, a slang for a door.  A door.  Open the door to Leonard Peltier's pen.  Open one pine to a penal pen and let Leonard ride on the road he has not rode on in many a day.  Allow Leonard Peltier his full and unqualified freedoms so wrongly taken from him, just like it was done to Nelson Mandela, Yeshua ben Joseph, and so many others.

PLEA :  c. The answer of the accused to a criminal charge or indictment: entered a plea of not guilty.

RA: a sacred word for the One Creator, the Great Spirit, the One God, Birthing Source, Odin.

The Story of Leonard Peltier

Leonard Peltier, an Anishinabe-Lakota political prisoner, has spent
the last 24 years of his life in prison despite the fact that the
government has admitted on numerous occasions that they do not know
who is responsible for the crime he was convicted of. Because of the
glaring Human and Constitutional violations that have been made in
the overall targeting, prosecution, and continued imprisonment of
Peltier, millions have come to know of his case and support his
freedom. Some of whom are the late Mother Theresa, Desmond Tutu, the
Dalai Lama, Amnesty International, the European Parliament, the
Italian Parliament, the Belgium Parliament, the Green Party, 50
members of U.S. Congress, Robert Redford, the National Congress of
American Indians, and Jesse Jackson among others.

Leonard Peltier is 54 years old and was born in Grand Forks, North
Dakota. He came from a large family of 13 brothers and sisters. At
the age of 8 years he was taken from his family and sent to a
residential boarding school for Native people run by the US
Government. This was his first experience with the intrusion of the
United States Government into the lives of Native peoples.

As a teenager he returned to live with his father at the Turtle
Mountain Reservation in North Dakota. It was one of three
reservations which the United States Government had chosen as the
testing ground for its new termination policy. The resulting protests
and demonstrations against this policy which forced First Nations
families off their reservations and into the cities, was his first
experience with Native resistance to the United States Government's
efforts at assimilation.

During one particularly difficult winter on the Turtle Mountain
Reservation Leonard Peltier recollects protests by his people to the
Bureau of Indian Affairs about the lack of food on the reservation.
Following these protests, B.I.A. social workers came to the
reservation to investigate the situation. Leonard and one of the
organizers on the reservation went from household to household before
the arrival of the investigating party to tell the local people to
hide what little food they had. When he got to the first house, he
found that there was no food to hide and the same story was repeated
in each of the households that he went to. This experience awakened
him to the desperate situation for people on his reservation. Because
he worked with his father as a migrant farm worker, he often traveled
from reservation to reservation. He came to learn that policies of
relocation, poverty, and racism were affecting all Indigenous peoples
in the U.S.

In 1965, Leonard Peltier moved to Seattle, Washington, where he
worked for several years as part owner of an auto body shop which he
used to employ Native people and to provide low-cost automobile
repairs for those who needed it. During the same period, he was also
active in the founding of a Native half-way house for ex-prisoners in
Seattle. His community work involvement included Native Land Claim
issues, alcohol counseling, and participation in protests concerning
the preservation of Native owned land within the city of Seattle.

In the late 1960's and early 1970's Leonard Peltier lived in
Washington and Wisconsin and was working as a welder, carpenter, and
community counselor for Native people. In the course of his work he
became involved with the American Indian Movement and eventually
joined the Denver Colorado chapter. He worked as a community
counselor confronting job issues, alcohol problems and better city
housing.

Leonard Peltier's support for the American Indian Movement led to his
involvement in the 1972 Trail of broken Treaties which took him to
Washington D.C., in the non-violent occupation of the Bureau of
IndianAffairs building. He became strongly involved in the spiritual and
traditional programs of AIM.

Leonard Peltier's involvement in AIM is what brought him to Pine
Ridgein 1975. During that time the reservation was rife with conflict
between the conservative tribal chairman and his supporters and the
traditional people who wanted to keep their land, language, culture,
and spirituality. The tribal chairman and his hired vigilantes know
as'GOONS' carried out a campaign of violence against those in
opposition to his policies. In a period of three years over 60 traditional
people were murdered on Pine Ridge and over 300 were severely beaten,
several of whom were involved with AIM. During this period the reservation
had the highest ratio of FBI agents to citizens than any other area in
the US. Despite this, no murders or beatings were ever investigated.
Furthermore, one GOON leader has since gone on record to say that in
fact, the FBI intentionally turned their heads to such behavior and
moreover, helped to arm those carrying out these crimes.

It was for this reason Leonard Peltier along with other AIM members
were asked to come to Pine Ridge to help the people who were being
targeted. It was in this climate of fear that a shoot out broke out
on June 26, 1975 between two FBI agents in unmarked cars and local
residents and members of AIM. The two agents and one Native man were
killed. Three people went to trial for the deaths of the agents, one
of whom was Leonard Peltier. No investigation of the Native man's
death took place. Two of those who went to trial were found innocent
on grounds of self defense. Leonard Peltier, who had fled to Canada,
was tried later, in a different district by a different judge, after
being illegally extradited from Canada. He was found guilty of first
degree murder and sentenced to two consecutive lifes in one of the
most controversial trials of the century. When faced with previously
withheld evidence on appeal pointing to Leonard Peltier's innocence,
the prosecution admitted, and later established that they in fact
could not prove who actually shot the agents or what involvement
Leonard Peltier may have had in their deaths. Despite this Mr.
Peltier remains in prison. For this reason, there is an international outcry
for his freedom and Leonard Peltier has become a notorious symbol of
injustice against Native Peoples. Millions are asking President
Clinton to grant him Executive Clemency.

From prison, Leonard Peltier has continued to advocate for the human
rights of Indigenous peoples and in doing so has won numerous human
rights awards. He was recently declared an official Human Rights
Defender at the Human Rights Defenders Summit in Paris which
commemorated the 50th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of
Human Rights. He has also established himself as a talented artist,
using oils to paint portraits of his people which portray their
cultures and histories. Leonard has been an integral part of the
movement to establish access to the practice of Native religions in
prison. He says that it is the sweat lodge, the love and support of
so many people, and his relationship with his grandchildren that allows
him to keep hope from what has been a long, dangerous and trying
twenty-three years.

Leonard Peltier could be you, me, anyone who stands up for his
family, friends, community, and beliefs. Leonard is a Native American serving
two consecutive life sentences in a federal penitentiary, even though
there is NO CREDIBLE EVIDENCE that he is guilty of anything.

On June 26, 1975 two FBI agents allegedly searching for a young
Indian accused of stealing a pair of used cowboy boots spotted several men
enter a red pick-up truck. They followed the truck briefly. The
occupants of the truck pulled over. Shots were fired though no one
knows who fired first. Soon the situation exploded into a firefight
involving 30 or so Indian men, women, and children and over 150 FBI
agents, BIA police, US Marshals and the local police known as GOONs.
Two agents and a young Indian activist died.

Within hours of the shootout, according to the U.S. Commission on
Civil Rights which labeled it 'a full scale vendetta', hundreds of
paramilitary equipped, combat-clad FBI agents and US Marshals staged
a dragnet through the reservation in a fever of revenge in which men,
women, and children were terrified and properties and homes were
ransacked. There was no investigation into the death of the Native
American.

Leonard had been previously identified as an AIM leader by the FBI
and targeted by their notorious COINTELPRO program which 'neutralized'
people by slander, attack, and arrest. Fearing no possibility of a
fair trial and at the request of his elders, he fled to Canada where
he was later arrested and extradited by affidavits manufactured by
the FBI that the government now concedes were false and fabricated. Four
men were initially accused of the murders. Two were acquitted and the
government dropped all charges against the third to concentrate their
'full prosecutorial weight...against Leonard Peltier.' He was
convicted and sentenced to two consecutive life terms. The handpicked
judge, favored by the FBI for his anti-Indian reputation, refused
evidence of self defense. Information from the acquittals of his
codefendants was also ruled inadmissable. Jurors were convinced by
the court that AIM 'snipers' would kill them at any time. In short
Peltier was convicted before his trial even began.

The government has subsequently changed its theory on who killed the
agents and today admits they have NO IDEA WHO KILLED THEM. This
change of theory came about during an appeal when a judge suggested to the
prosecution that the evidence was, at best, merely circumstantial.
The government then argued that they had tried Leonard as both the
murderer and aider and abettor.

According to the final decision of the 8th Circuit Court of Appeals,
Peltier's trial and previous appeals had been riddled with FBI
misconduct and judicial impropriety including: coercion of witnesses,
perjury, fabrication of evidence, and the suppression of exculpatory
evidence which could have proved his innocence. The Court called the
FBI's misconduct 'a clear abuse of the investigative process'. Yet
they ruled against a new trial for Leonard Peltier because they were
'reluctant to impute further improprieties to them (FBI).'
Recently it was discovered that a terrible error had been made during
the appeal by Leonard's own attorney during which he mistakenly
agreed with the judge regarding the testimony of Norman Brown. What the
attorney and the judge did not realize was that Brown had recanted
his testimony at trial and stated he had been coerced by the FBI. He
further stated that he never saw Peltier anywhere near the bodies of
the agents.

We also now know that other agents were stationed around the area
prior to the start of the firefight, in direct contradiction to their
testimony at trial. This was discovered in September, 1995 following
the release of radio communications from the South Dakota Attorney
General's office. A document has been unearthed stating that almost
two months prior to the day of the shoot-out, the FBI was planning
'paramilitary law enforcement...on Indian land', specifically, Pine
Ridge. It may also be noted that the highest buildup of agents to
civilians occurred just six days prior to the tragic incident.

It is obvious to anyone with a conscience that the government was
planning to attack the AIM encampment, perhaps in the hopes of
diverting attention from an illegal land transfer, or perhaps as a
way to stop Senator Frank Church's Committee from investigating the FBI's
Cointelpro program in regard to Native struggles. That investigation
was initiated just prior to the shoot-out. It was halted the day
after 'due to the deaths of the agents.'

With recent developments in Washington, DC proving the FBI grossly
participated in illegally doctoring and manufacturing evidence to
ensure criminal convictions, more attention MUST be paid to this
renegade organization's past misconduct. Congressional
hearings/investigations are critical!

During a parole hearing in December 1995, US prosecutor Lynn Crooks
admitted again that no evidence exists against Peltier. He further
stated that he government never really accused him of murder and that
if Peltier were retried, the government could not reconvict. The
Parole Board, however, decided not to grant parole because Peltier
continues to maintain his innocence (they stated that Peltier had not
given a 'factual and specific account of (his) actions...consistent
with the jury's verdict of guilt') and because he was the only one
convicted. As ridiculous as this reasoning sounds, it has thus far
held up. A petition for executive clemency remains unanswered 5 1/2
years after being filed with the Department of Justice. The delay has
been excused by government officials as a lengthy revue of a complex
case. 1999 NEEDS to be the year of JUSTICE for LEONARD PELTIER. FREE

Back in time a bit again ....

On July 25th Two Thousand, someone did a
search at Google.com for 'ladydiana' and found
the Name Art of Lady Diana at Good Works On Earth.
Her Name Art link was #1 of 144 replies on the search.
Good Works On Earth's Star Arts are in the top ten on
worldwide search engine responses for many names and words.

Someone else did a search at Google.com for the words,
'when you hate, who do you hurt the most'
and found the Star Art of LAUGHTER
at number four in the top ten.
Dali Lama was number one!
Well done!

Perhaps the Name Art of Leonard Peltier will rise to the top ten
and help open the eyes of more people to this tragic jest in justice.

My Life Is My Sun Dance
Prison Writings of LEONARD PELTIER

Silence, they say, is the voice of complicity.
But silence is impossible.
Silence screams.
Silence is a message,
Just as doing nothing is an act.

Let who you are ring out and resonate
in every word and every deed.
Yes, become who you are.
There's no sidestepping your own being
or your own responsibility.

What you do is who you are.
You are your own comeuppance.
You become your own message.

You are the message.

May the Great Spirit Make Sunrise in Your Heart . . .

Hoka Hey!

Leonard Peltier

A Bio Harvey Arden....

Over the past few years I have given readings/lectures on the Dreamkeepers
and the Wisdomkeepers at Harvard, Columbia, CalTech, USC, the University of
South Dakota (Vermillion), Briarcliffe College (Sioux City, IA), etc etc etc.
I've given readings from Leonard Peltier's,
PRISON WRITINGS: MY LIFE IS MY SUN DANCE
and Mathew King's book NOBLE RED MAN to audiences in schools, churches,
museums, private homes, coffee shops, public auditoriums and theaters in New York,
Toronto, Los Angeles, Atlanta, Boston, New Orleans, Washington DC, Cape Cod,
Western Massachusetts, New Hampshire etc.and scores of smaller towns. I've also
given scores of readings at Borders and Barnes & Noble (and many, many other)
bookstores across the country; I've been interviewed on NPR (national 'Public
Interest' show, twice), also on many many other radio stations.

I was for 23 years a staff writer at National Geographic Magazine.
A play of mine on Leonard Peltier, already performed at USD, is in the early stages of a
professional production. My books have been translated into French, Spanish, German,
Italian, Dutch, Swedish, and Japanese...with Greek and Swedish in the works.

Anyway, I'm willing to put my old body on the line anytime it's needed for
the Cause, but I can often be of more use here at my basement--study PC, since I
plug into lots of places in the Indian and international indigenous worlds,
though I'm a white guy myself. Lot's of people know me and, hopefully, trust
me. You can check me out ad nauseum with a Google search on my name. (someone
told me a few weeks or so ago she found 22,000 entries on me with a few simple
searches) I still spend lots of time working for and with Leonard Peltier. I've
visited Leonard half a dozen times at Leavenworth. Also, I have a few novels,
plays, screenplays and other nonfiction books that I'm trying to give birth
to lest they be, alas, stillborn.

Like Mat King used to say, 'You're not too bad for a white guy, Harvey.
You're lucky. Tunkashila has a job for you to do and you're going to do it!'

Regarding why I, a white guy, am so involved in the indigenous world, I
subscribe to the philosophy expressed in this statement by Australian Aboriginal
Elder Lilla Watson:

'If you've come here to help me, you're wasting your time. But if you've come
because your liberation is bound up with mine, then let us work together.'
We have not forgotten you,Leo!
Reviewer: Itch'cha-wah
This CD brings Leo home to us.
We need to force his release!!!!!
One voice can carry far.
Let it start with you and me.
Aho!

My heart soars when I listen to it
Reviewer: Doug Draime
When I listen to it my heart is broken and my heart is enraged, and my heart
soars. Every man and woman and child should be exposed to it. It is outrages
what has happened to Leonard and we must all stand up and say, no more, no more
...

A must have for any ethical person. Tino pai!
Reviewer: Jon Pawson
The words of this CD resonate with anguish and pain, yet a staunch resolve
remains. We hear Leonard's experiences through Harvey's voice, a powerful
performance. This CD should be with every conscientious supporter of justice in
every land on this earth. Ka mau te wehi, e hoa ma! (Awesome, my friends)

Reviewer: Geri Timmons
Absolutely loved the CD and the way it brings Leonard's words to life. I
intend to send the CD to our irish republican political prisoner's in Ireland. We
are not in this struggle alone. Ta an la ag teact (our day is coming)

The Ripples are Reaching Out!
Reviewer: Risha
I sat and listened to this in my room, a few candles flickering in the
darkness and I could FEEL the pain, the loneliness and the emptiness of Mr Peltier
as his powerful words reached into my mind and painted many disturbing and
despairing images, they reached in and touched my heart and I felt so sad, yet I
could also feel such strength and dignity. That amazed me. I don't think there
are many people who would be able to stay as strong and not lose their dignity
under such a disgusting and disgaceful injustice forced upon them! I am here
in England and like a pebble dropped in the water the ripples are reaching out
to other lands and other people who also fight in their own way for Mr
Peltier... and the injustices of the American Indian Peoples.

This is an important CD
Reviewer: Come Again Moon
How can we rate this CD, it is like trying to rate the experience of the
heart beat of GrandMother Earth. This album is important. I agree with the good
people, here. Leonard invites you into his cell, with the care and grace of a
loving, holy spirit and Harvey Arden's riviting, naration carries us through the
journey of Leonard's Sun Dance as we are all, accompanied to new levels of
understanding, by Rev. Goat and the New Orleans Light. Ording more than one copy
of this CD, really is, a good idea and Little Eagle, Thank you for the
excellent suggestion. One of my copies will be given to my Congressperson. Mitakye

Great stuff - is Leonard getting any help from the proceeds?

Great stuff - I sincerely hope that Leonard's campaign will benefit from

Very Impressive Work
Reviewer: Little Eagle - Earth Citizenhsip Network
Very impressive work. It will take the listener to a place where most of us
will never be but all of us are all familiar with. The place is Leavenworth,
Kansas the residence of a Native American and Earth Citizen political prisoner
by the name of Leonard Peltier. The spoken words you will hear is from
Leonard's personal story and it will ring to your heart, go ahead and buy it. In fact,
buy one for a friend and send another to a politician. Free Leonard Peltier!

Demand Freedom for Leonard NOW!
Reviewer: John at CD Baby
The powerful words of Leonard Peltier are not to be ignored. This one man has
done more to promote Human Rights while unjustly held within prison walls
than most of us can ever hope to do outside of them. This CD is a compelling
reading of Leonards own words, read by the man (Harvey Arden) who helped him get
those words out to the world. A must have for anyone who cares for the future
of the generations yet to come and the realities of a man currently being
denied freedom due to a gross miscarriage of justice.

Have you read the Star Art of AMERICANS
It's a scream, as Americans care.
It's a song in the songster's care.
Can an anthem heal the hate ?
Can a ballad suspend time ?
A healing anthem can ..
An able ballad can ...
