Regarding a novel idea for a solution to gay marriage preventions by
christian politicians at the behest of the evangelicals.
A very legal way to have a very legal family in Oregon, and perhaps
your state :
Forget Marriage : Use Adoption
Here's a suggestion for all of those same-sex couples trying to navigate
the current
bureaucratic quagmire in search of equal rights and recognition.
Rather than hoping for
marriage or even a civil union, consider adoption. With very
minimal requirements, according
to ORS 109.329, it is perfectly legal in Oregon for a person to adopt
someone over the age of 18.
You would then be able to make decisions on behalf of each other
in all matters medical,
legal and otherwise; adoption would even allow you to share the same
last name.
Moreover, as long as statutory requirements are met, your family member
can
be claimed on your taxes, thereby providing a modicum of relief to
those who
are forced to file separately despite sharing income and expenses.
Though legal advice should be certainly sought, the idea presents itself
as
a solution to a problem which has been blow out of proportion
by a self-righteous,
intolerant and sanctimonious coalition. Apparently there are
no income requirements,
gender restrictions or even a limit on the number of adoptees allowed.
So file the paperwork and become a happy and legal family! Good

My Dear Friends,
Someone sent me an email this week saying that the 'Presidential Prayer
Team' is
currently urging people to...'Pray for the president as he seeks wisdom
on how to
legally codify the definition of marriage. Pray that it will
be according to Biblical
principles. With any forces insisting on variant definitions
of marriage, pray that
God's Word and His standards will be honored by our government.'
I do not know what the 'Presidential Prayer Team' is, or if there even
is one, much less
whether, if it exists, it actually issued the above plea. I have learned
to take with a
grain of salt anything I see or read on the Internet. Nevertheless,
having said that, we
are certainly all aware that President Bush has said he would like
to find a way to
'codify' marriage between a man and a woman as the only marriage to
be legally
recognized in this country.
A group calling itself Protestants for the Common Good has just released
a fascinating
document that indicates what the 'Biblical Principles' of marriage
are, based on a
reading of the Holy Bible. This group says that a proposed Constitutional
Amendment
codifying marriage entirely on biblical principles would say the following:
A. Marriage in the United States shall consist of a union between one
man and one or
more women. (Gen 29:17-28; II Sam 3:2-5)
B. Marriage shall not impede a man's right to take concubines,
in addition to his wife
or wives. (II Sam 5:13; I Kings 11:3; II Chron 11:21)
C. A marriage shall be considered valid only if the wife is a
virgin. If the wife is
not a virgin, she shall be executed. (Deut 22:13-21)
D. Marriage of a believer and a non-believer shall be forbidden.
(Gen 24:3; Num 25:1-9;
Ezra 9:12; Neh 10:30)
E. Since marriage is for life, neither this Constitution nor the
constitution of any
State, nor any state or federal law, shall be construed to permit divorce.
(Deut 22:19;
Mark 10:9)
F. If a married man dies without children, his brother shall marry
the widow. If he
refuses to marry his brother's widow or deliberately does not give
her children, he
shall pay a fine of one shoe, and be otherwise punished in a manner
to be determined by
law. (Gen. 38:6-10; Deut 25:5-10)
G. In lieu of marriage, if there are no acceptable men in your
town, it is required
that you get your dad drunk and have sex with him tag-teaming with
any sisters you may
have. Of course, this rule applies only if you are female.* (Gen
19:31-36)

The thought of a constitutional amendment against same-sex marriages
is
another example of how dense our species is. How about a constitutional
amendment prohibiting war - or ending hunger - or curing AIDS? Isn't
it
revealing how some people just love to tell other people how to live
their
lives. Why is that some people just love to judge other people as if
they
know what is best for them? How can anyone know why another person
is here
- what lessons, issues, and experiences they signed up for? There is
certainly a huge amount of negative programming occurring in this reality.
Maybe people should start minding their own business. Maybe then they
would have time to learn a few lessons from our animal friends. Hopefully
one day, before it is too late, we will finally realize that we are
all
connected - no matter how different we appear to be.

We must stop carnage in Iraq :
While it comes as no great surprise that George Bush is supported by
mainstream Christians and their single-mindedness,
I was just curious how these Christians reconcile the deaths of more
than 100,000 Iraqi civilians.
Is death by abortion different from death by smart bombs? Do
the familes grieve less?
Are Arabs less human or diminished in God's eyes because they are not
Christians?
Where is the outrage? The Iraqi people were not involved with
Sept 11.
To lend any support to this crusading president in his quest to impose
his will on
another country is tantamount to promoting further deaths to innocents.
The blood is on all our hands if we refuse to stop this carnage.
